Kleiny spent most weekends from the age of 12, fishing on his father's boat up and down the east coast of Australia. As a super keen junior angler for the Sydney Game Fishing Club, he tallied up several tournament wins. Kleiny knew from a very young age that fishing was what he wanted to dedicate his life to. It was and remains, his passion.

After completing his trade as a marine mechanic in 2007, Kleiny started his career as a professional crewman. His early experience included several seasons guiding in Wiepa, Lockhart River and Princess Charlotte Bay in QLD, a season chasing striped marlin on fly over in New Zealand, commercial fishing in Hawaii and many more seasons crewing on some of the Great Barrier Reef's finest game boats.

Kleiny was lucky enough to work as a crewman under the command of some of the most outstanding Captains in the world and as a result, quickly became recognised locally as a “gun” crewman. Kleiny's record includes involvement in several tournament wins as well as the setting of new Australian and World Records.

In 2016, Kleiny completed his MED 1 and Master 5 certifications and followed his dream of becoming a captain. In his first season as Captain, Kleiny earned an equal second place in the Lizard Island (QLD) tournament, caught the biggest blue fin tuna in NSW water and released 17 blue marlin in 14 days of fishing at Port Stephens, NSW. With this and other accolades under his belt, Kleiny has cemented his prominent position in the game fishing industry on the east coast of Australia.
